ClamAV is an open source antivirus engine for detecting trojans, viruses, malware & other malicious threats. As such, it's an integral part of a SmarterMail installation. To enable ClamAV:

  1. Log in as the system administrator.
  2. Go to Settings > Antivirus.
  3. On the ClamAV card, toggle the slider next to Enable ClamAV to the right.
  4. Click Save.
Once enabled, you can simply use the default settings. The IP address would only need to be changed if you planned to host ClamAV on a separate server.

Immediately after enabling ClamAV, you may see an "Unable to obtain virus definitions for a disabled or remote ClamAV server" toast notification. If you do, simply refresh the page. ClamAV self-updates, but as with any new software, it may require an update to its definitions. Refreshing the page can help initiate that update.
