Configure Who's On to Track Visitors on your Company’s Website

This article applies to recent versions of SmarterTrack. View articles for SmarterTrack 12.x and earlier.

SmarterTrack can monitor the visitors currently on your website and display useful information about each visitor, such as browser, IP address, and even what country they are visiting from. You can also use Who's On in conjunction with live chat to initiate communications with a website visitor.

Follow these steps to configure Who's On and add the code necessary to track visitors on your company's website:

  1. Log in to the SmarterTrack management interface as a System Administrator.
  2. Click on the Menu icon, and from the dropdown select Settings.
  3. Under the Configuration header, click Who's On. The Who's On settings will load in the content pane.
  4. Click the Website Integration tab.
  5. Copy the script that was generated and paste it at the bottom of all of the web pages you want to track. The Who's On code should go just above the closing BODY tag.
  6. Be sure to save the changes to your web page, then re-publish your website.

Who's On Filters
You may find that you want to segregate site visitors into one or more groups based on where they are on your site. This can be accomplished using Who's On filters. For example, you may want to separate traffic in your forum from traffic within your order process. You can create one filter with "/forums/" and another with "Order" to separate the two (assuming your site was set up this way, of course).

Follow these steps to add a Who's On Filter:

  1. Log in to the SmarterTrack management interface as a System Administrator.
  2. Click on the Menu icon, and from the dropdown select Who's On
  3. At the bottom of the navigation pane, click on the Folders icon. From the menu, select Add Filter
  4. On the Filter tab, provide a Filter Name, (e.g., "Orders") and then select the Brand to associate the filter to. (If necessary.)
  5. Click on Conditions tab.
  6. Click the Add Condition button and fill in the appropriate Field, Operator and Value, then click Ok.
  7. Click Save.
Your new Filter is now created and you should start seeing activity for the Filter in short order.
