Need a smarter email suggestion (compose mail screen)
Idea shared by Thu Nguyen - 7/3/2020 at 9:56 AM
Under Consideration
Hi,
When I compose email, smartermail always suggest me with priority of unwanted contact address (rarely used).
ex, I have 5 mails like this:
contact1@gmail.com (contact with him 2 year and never work with him again)
contact2@gmail.com (contact with him 1 year ago and never work with him again)
contact3@gmail.com (contact this email 3 weeks ago).
contact4@gmail.com (I'm working with him and often send to this email address recently, 2 days ago)
contact5@gmail.com (contact with this 2 week ago)

So when I type "contact", Smartermail all the time suggest me contact1@gmail.com at 1st position.
I need a smarter email address suggest, to know which address at the first, second and third...

In my example, it must be smarter, in this order:
contact4@gmail.com
contact5@gmail.com
contact3@gmail.com
contact2@gmail.com
contact1@gmail.com

Hi, I guess the suggested contacts returns matching contacts alphabetically.

I'm not sure SmarterMail keeps track of how many interactions you had with a specific contact.

A adding a "sent mails" counter to each contact, incrementing every time you send a mail to this contact could do the trick so it can sort suggestions with this field
And/or a "last mail sent" field with the date of last interaction with the contact.

Maybe ST could add your request to feature requests ?

Yes, I think it must be a Feature Request.
Suggest based on recent interactive is very intelligent, rather than just sort it from A=>Z

This is a great feature request, and I'd be happy to get it submitted for you!

Great suggestion... I would also add the following:
a) Smarter with email addresses that have a name associated.
When I start typing (same example as the first one)... contact@gmail.com it suggests:
contact@gmail.com and
john doe <contact@gmail.com) so if there is someone already associated with that email, why does it suggest it twice? once with the contact name and one without it?

b) make it smarter with periods.
example:
i am looking for john.doe@gmail.com

if i start typing "joh" it gives me possible "johns", but if i continue typing to the period like "john." then i dont get any suggestions until i add another letter "john.d". this is really annoying since many clients have  users accounts with the name.lastname format.

Thu, good suggestion.

The situation would be vastly improved if SM didn't use Sent Items for Auto-Complete:

In version 15, there was a way to delete your auto-complete list so it would get rid of all these bogus entries.

Hello and good afternoon. Ron's update is correct. This is something that we have on our list, but it has not yet been decided on or implemented.

I will make another plug for a quick and simple fix -- don't use Sent Items for Auto-Complete.

Reason: your Sent Items can contain all kinds of random, one-time-use, obsolete email addresses from 10 years ago.  Just use Contacts for AutoComplete:
https://portal.smartertools.com/community/a87997/use-contacts-instead-of-separate-auto-complete-list.aspx

Can you delete your auto-complete list in SM17 like you can in SM15?

Or use Sent from the past XX days.

Does anyone know how to delete the Auto-Complete list in the current version?  In SM15, it was under Settings -> Advanced Settings.  Can't find it in the current version.

Unfortunately, we have customers that have been waiting years for this to be cleaned up. And it looks like many other SmarterMail customers have as well. See these posts from 2014 and 2016 with over 30 votes total.

2014 - 16 votes -- Declined

2016 - 16 votes -- Marked as Completed, but it's not

Let's fix this up so that we can keep these customers happy.
Thanks,
Kevin

From what I understand the auto-complete list is saved in the user directory in the file acquaintances.json.

It would probably work to delete the file and reload the domain. Not a very clean solution, but if you really need to do it for some users.

The best would be a clear auto-complete button in the interface of course...

Sébastien,

Yes, thanks for the reply!  Appreciate your tip on how to manually clear out the auto-complete list. As you mentioned, not a very clean solution, especially when v15 had the functionality built into webmail.

Any update on this suggestion in the new beta?  This type of auto-complete would greatly assist in rolling users off outlook.

Thanks.
