Giorgio,

You can use categories to accomplish this.  First, click on the hamburger button at the bottom left corner of your webmail interface when viewing your contacts.

Next, click on New Category.

In the modal that pops up, enter a name for your new category and save it.  Now when you're viewing a contact, you can put it into the new category by using the toggle next to the category name.

@Giorgio - good question. I requested they make the Contacts UI more intuitive a few years ago and it's the 2nd highest-voted request in this forum.

Even though it's marked as completed, it still doesn't work that well. Creating a new group should be simpler. And clicking on a group should show the contacts in that group (like Google Contacts), not bring up a dialog to rename the group.

Kevin,

You can use the eye icons to hide or show the different categories of contacts you have.

Thank you Ben, it is useful only if we use webmail and only if we use few catdegories otherwise it is confused.
If I use Outlook and try to add contacts to Outlook from menu actions, it return a Sharepoint error and dont sync with Outlook.

Giorgio,

Your best bet for syncing with desktop Outlook will be to utilize MAPI once it is ready for production.  If you want to test the public beta in the meantime, you can find more information here:

Thanks Ben. I realize there's a way to do it.  Just don't think the 'eyeball icon' is very common in UI design. A checkbox in front of the group would be more intuitive.

Also, might consider renaming Categories to Groups or Labels to be more like other email systems. Not criticizing, just trying to make SM better and reduce support calls.

Kevin,

If you'd like to make another post specifically for that suggestion, I'll get it submitted as a feature request for you.  That way the other community members can weigh in on it as well and we can make sure it gets the necessary visibility to be considered for future SmarterMail releases.

Ben, yes, did that a few years ago and everyone said it was a good idea...

Would appreciate anything you can do to help it get the visibility needed to be considered for a future release. Thanks!
