All Closed Tickets and Messages are not visible

on the 20th of this week of March 2016, it seems that all the closed and waiting tickets and messages have dissappeared from view. I can find them in the sql server DB tables, but with no changes to the roles or user accounts, these tickets are no longer showing up in the UI. I attempted a popint release upgrade but that did not solve the problem. The Web server service was restarted many times and even the admin account cannot see these using the UI. Has this happened before and does anyone know why? Tried an advanced search of all deleted tickets and still they do not show.
