Stop Spam from Adding Calendar Invite

Spammers are always using new tricks. The new trend is to send calendar invites that automatically get added to your calendar and flag the notification bell in upper-right.

Anyone have suggestion in how to stop this?  Can a user turn off calendar invites so they don't automatically add an event?  Seems like many of these come from Microsoft.  See example below:

Porn spam message with calendar invite:
From: Kimberly 😉Turner <noisbbna7958@hotmail.com>
To: dmarywilliams75q89 <dmarywilliams75q89@groups.outlook.com>
Subject: 😘 I am feeling wet on me🥒
Attendees: dmarywilliams75q89 (Organizer)
When: 6/4/26 11:51 PM to 6/5/26 12:21 AM
Reminder: 15 minutes

Hey Kevin,

Thanks for sharing this with us. I just went ahead and created a feature request to add a setting to disable auto creating calendar events for invitations. Currently the only thing you can really do is block them.

Kind Regards,

Thanks, Zach, for adding this as a feature request!

Question: do spam messages automatically create a calendar invite?  If they don't, we could score these messages higher so they go to Junk Email and don't create a calendar event.

Thanks,
Kevin

SmarterMail doesn't automatically add a meeting message to the calendar if it is delivered to the Junk Email folder. Similarly, if the message is delivered to the Inbox and you move it to the junk folder, it should be removed from your calendar, so long as you haven't sent an Accept or Tentative response.

Hi Andrew,
I don't think marking it as Junk works. When a message with calendar meeting is delivered to Inbox, I've clicked Move to Junk in webmail, but the alert is not removed from the Notifications icon in upper-right that shows calendar items.

Can you duplicate? Maybe we could add that to this enhancement request? Thanks!

This is a feature of email clients like Mac Mail on MacOS or Mail on IOS etc.. Once a message is received in your inbox, the email client and services like Siri evaluate it and may add items such as calendar events or flights as tentative entries.

You can either change the Siri settings on your devices to prevent this behavior, or increase your spam filtering so those messages never reach your inbox.

With the addition of SpamFoo in our environment, we no longer have a substantial number of spam messages in our inboxes, so I've re-enabled some of the automatic suggestions for calendar events and flights across my various operating systems and apps.
