How do you delete a SmarterStats site from the web interface?
Question asked by John Purpura - 9/27/2021 at 4:00 PM
Unanswered
I have an old SmarterStats site pointing to a remote server that does not exist. I have replaced that server and installed the SmarterStats service there and the stats are being collected. I want to remove the old site config from the list in the web interface.

I have checked the box next to it then gone to Actions and chosen Delete but it never goes away. I have clicked on the site name on the left to bring up the details, then clicked Delete above the detail pane. Nothing happens.

Is there a config file on disk somewhere that I can remove it from there and make it disappear from the web interface? It doesn't hurt anything being there but it's dead and cluttering the list of sites.

I'm using build 7219.

Hello John! These entries are contained in the sitelist.dat file, but I don't recommend modifying this by hand as it can be a tricky format. Let me check with development to see what they suggest on this scenario and I'll reach out to update you when I hear back. Have a good one!

Just a quick follow-up for you on this. Development confirmed you can edit this file manually with the SmarterStats system service in the stopped state, which is critical as it can lead to corruption of the file if edited with it running. That said, please make a backup copy of the file beforehand as the formatting can be difficult. I hope this helps!

Can Development give a reason why it does not work from the web interface?

I managed to find SiteList.dat in my file system. This is the path E:\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\Service
The file is 0 K, empty when I open it up in notepad.

I found this path E:\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\MRS\App_Data\Config that has an AppConfig.xml that has site information in it and I found this path E:\SmarterTools\SmarterStats\MRS\App_Data\Config\Sites that has an xml file for each site.

It seems this information is spread around to multiple places that I can't enumerate and attempting to edit in the file system is risky. I don't want to mess up things. I guess I will just rename all these obsolete SmarterStats sites I have so they sort at the bottom and kind of stay out of the way.

Hello John, and sorry for the delay on this! Unfortunately development would need to look at the issue/environment further to determine the root cause behind this error. That said, this usually means we can't reach the remote server where the agent is installed. With that being said, the sitelist.dat file shouldn't be empty as far as I'm aware, so it may not be a bad idea to get a ticket submitted on this one so we can have development take a look. Sorry I couldn't be more help here John!
