Smartermail one way video chat possible?
Idea shared by MailUser - 4/22/2020 at 6:17 AM
Completed
Is it possible to do a one way video chat with the smart mail video chat client. Currently when we call a user on a computer that doesn't have a web camera we get the error message "Your browser doesn't support video calling".

if the person you are calling does not have web camera but does have a microphone, they will still be able to join the video call.  Can you verify if this user has a microphone?  Also, what version of SmarterMail are you running?

We are using the latest version of smarter mail build 7242.The other person I would be calling does not have a microphone or web camera I just want them to be able to hear and see me. I don't need to see or hear them. They would communicate back with me using the text chat feature.

We will be looking into modifying Team Workspaces to allow participants to connect to a video chat in a view only mode.

We are in the process of completely revamping Team Workspaces especially by replacing our current third-party tools and implementing our own native WebRTC code. This will allow for better control over the video/audio streams and other options like screensharing.  It is tentatively slated for the next public build.

Robert,

This is great news, I see it didn't make it in the next public release, according to the release notes, how has the progress been?  Do you have a new release date for this?

Thanks,
