Automatic configuration of ActiveSync and IMAP-CardDAV-CalDAV
Idea shared by David Sovereen - 1/5/2020 at 7:50 PM
Under Consideration
We are migrating a MailEnable server to SmarterMail and I found a helpful feature they have.  You can see it at https://webmail.excel.net/Mobile/clients.aspx

You enter your username and password, choose the type of account you want to set up, and it spits out a file that Macs, iPhones, and iPads understand to automatically configure them.

I've attached what each file looks like with the username and password changed.  Would be real helpful if SmarterMail has something similar.  I'm thinking under Settings -> Account or Settings -> Connectivity a button that, based on the capabilities of the account in question (whether ActiveSync is enabled or not) downloads the file with one click.

I'm assuming SmarterTools folks didn't know this existed or it would be there already, as it is a super-easy way to get people with Apple devices set up!  Not seeing where I can add an attachment.  If I can't after I create this thread, I'll create a support ticket and hopefully I can upload the same files there.

Thanks,

Dave

David,

Thanks for the suggestion!  I've submitted this as a feature request for you.

This is a great idea.  It was also a great idea when I posted about it back in 2017 :)

It's still a great idea in 2022.

So easy… so helpful… probably 30 mins of coding to implement… still not done 5 years later. The ROI on this is huge. SmarterTools decision-making is confounding.
