Add Mark Spam button to the toolbar
Idea shared by Edhy Rijo - 10/18/2017 at 7:27 AM
Completed
As you know, we all spend quite some time marking emails as spam, I would like to be able to add a button to the main toolbar for the "Mark Spam" action, maybe next to "Delete" or "Reply", but clicking the "..." button to select the "Mark Spam" action is a bit of an inconvenience.
Thanks!

Yep, totally agree - the interface needs to help us do things more quickly.

Agree that a button on toolbar would be more convenient to mark messages as spam. But does marking messages as spam really help anything? We see Bayes tag roughly 50% of all messages which makes it pretty useless.

Why not go one better and try to eliminate spam from the Inbox? That would really save time. Here are some suggestions which would definitely help:

Thanks,

I'd like to Add a couple of things to help the fight.
Add a line to the logs that only lists the failed tests. Currently it has one long list of all test run..I propose a second line in the log showing the test failed and the weight also a Total weight of all test failed.
Example: SPF_None:10, Custom Rules [], HostKarma – Yellowlist:5 , SpamCop: 15, Declude: 25, TotalSpamWeight: 45

Add a Entree on the antispam administration page to show the list effectiveness. Number of failures in a 24hr period. It could be next to the Ave Time. This would give a indicator if the list is effective, useless or over zealous.

A report of spam tests to track spam test effectiveness over time.

Yes, good stuff, especially the last 2 items to measure DNS-BL effectiveness.

Stumbled upon this old thread and crazy that we're still talking about it today...

Gmail and other mail systems have the "Mark Spam" button right on the toolbar which is really convenient.

Credit to Edhy Rijo for posting it back in 2017.

Hi Kevind,
Yes, we are still waiting for this feature.  Now more than ever it is really useful.
Hopefully it will be implemented.

Another month and this request from 2017 is ignored. It has 15 votes which shows it's a popular request by the community, yet there's no reply from ST. In contrast, there are at least a dozen messages in the last 30 days with 5 or fewer votes that are marked as Under Consideration.

Makes me feel like this forum is pretty useless. Sorry for the harsh words, but it's frustrating when you have customers leaving your service because they like v15 but don't care for v17 and find better alternatives.

Okay, I believe SmarterTools, and all email providers, are about taking care of the customer. I could be wrong, but I bet they are about the customer. I have lost customers for not having this feature. Yes, it's a stupid thing to lose customers to but it's something I cannot argue against.

Microsoft's solution is not as good as Google's but still better than clicking on ... and choosing "Block Sender" (halfway down the menu).

If the two biggest email providers have this functionality, then why are we even having this discussion? This should be like "Great Idea" and it added in. Why is it four years later we are BEGGING for such a simple item to make the customer happy? Asking for a friend and the rest of the community.

Gmail has a "Report spam" button.

Outlook has a toolbar item called "Junk", "Phishing", and "Block" button.

SmarterTools Team,

On all community chats I see this as one of the number one complaints. Can we have so that we can (1) get what we, the users want, (2) remove this request from the community chat :), (3) have the same functionality Exchange has?

Thank you, (speaking for everyone) the entire SmarterMail community :)

Adding a "button" is harder than it looks! ;)
1
I mean, adding the button itself isnt too hard, but all the underlying code to handle the click event etc. We dont know ST's plans either for said event handler and how much is going into it, what it can do etc.
3
Nope we don't. But step 1 should be add the functionality that is now a few steps. That would shut us all up. Then add the additional logic, if any.
4
Yes, should be super-easy to add a button that moves the message from Inbox to Junk folder.

Can always add fancy things like flagging the source IP or Bayesian machine learning later...

Is this the phantom new "beta" SmarterMail release?
Or is this just "SmarterMail Vaporware"?

@Matthew, good catch -- celebrating its 5-year anniversary with 21 votes! So it's clearly something SM customers want and users expect to see in a mail interface.

How about taking the toolbar 1-step further?
  • Move the New, Select, and Sort buttons above the list of messages in the folder.
  • Put Reply, Forward, Delete, and Spam buttons above the preview window.
This would associate the buttons with the objects on the screen and make it clear to the user what the buttons are for. Thanks!

As long as MS Exchange says Junk and not Spam it will remain the same :)
I think you need to focus on sending your requests to MS Exchange - the moment they change the words or labels they will be accepted here :)  (hahaha)

You may get closer to this request being fulfilled if MS Exchange / MS makes the change first. Going through changelog and forum threads, I am seeing evidence pointing to SM being tied very closely to MS Exchange than being its own product (which I truly hope one day it will acknowledge or launch two variants of SM).

SM - Exchange Alternate (which its goal seems to be)
SM - Be A Leap Ahead Version ( I would love to see this grow)

And it took a 5 years to put this request  "Under Consideration" makes one wonder how long to get to "In Progress"
