FOR THE SMARTERTOOLS TEAM: Need clarification about reverting from SmarterMail v16x back to v15x

Hi SmarterTools team. This question is for you. Your SmarterMail 16x release notes specifically state
 
"IMPORTANT: Due to the significant changes in SmarterMail 16.x, you cannot downgrade or restore your installation to previous versions. (16.0.6345)"
 
I need to know if this is true? I'm asking because there are people here in the forum that are saying they successfully reverted from v16x to v15x without issue. They simply stopped the SM service and IIS site, uninstalled v16x and then reinstalled v15x and had absolutely no problems.

I was able to get clarification about this from the ST staff. They said that when version 16x was first released, there was not way to downgrade. Now, however, downgrading is possible, but not recommended.
