How to make domain the primary domain on a SM server

Given a SM server with several domains, how do I make one domain the primary domain i.e. so a user can login without @domain.com in the login field?

Thanks!

Hi Paul,

Since I have been running SmarterMail from v6 or so, when it was more complicated, I am not 100% sure how I got it to work, but if I understand correctly, I assumed it was due to me assigning the IP to the domain (edit domain, choose ip from drop down), called outbound IP.

Then I have hostnames setup, IP address and the hostname.

When I go to the hostname as long as that IP matches both above, I can login with just the username portion.

There might be something else you have to do, but this is how I thought it works.

Hope this helps,

OK I'll try that. Been using SM since sometime before v10, but I did not recall how that actually worked. Thanks!

Hi Paul,

As far as I am aware, in order to allow a user to log in at mail.theirdomain.com with just their username, you would need to create a host header for the domain in IIS: https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2755/set-up-host-headers.aspx

Hope this helps!

Paul, the steps are in a KB article that we have: http://know.mailsbestfriend.com/how_to_authenticate_with_smartermail_using_only_a_username_instead_of_a_full_email_address-1860504319.shtml

Please let me know if you have any questions.
