SmarterStats 5.x Upgrade to 8.x

Hi SmarterTools Staff,

I've seen the documentation you provide in your kb article when upgrading SS from 6.x-7x to 8.x - http://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2861/major-upgrade-of-smarterstats.aspx . I was wondering if I can take the same describe method in this Doc to make the jump from 5.x to 8.x of SS? Do you have a better recommendation or method?

Hello Frank,

Thanks for the inquiry. You may follow the same steps as noted in the Knowledge Base article for upgrading a major version of SmarterStats. Please keep in mind that we recommend making a backup of the directories and folders that pertain to the previous installation. You may need to make an additional backup of the IIS logs as well.

If you choose to upgrade to a newer build, such as the SmarterStats 9x or 10x then we suggest to implement at least the 8x build first to see if there are any issues.
