Can I install SmarterMail on the same linux server I'm running whm/cpanel?

I am trying to install smartermail on my whm/cpanel linux server. it's an Almalinux 9.7 server. I currently have a separate one currently running smartermail but would like to put them both on the same server for cost and other reasons.  The internet seems to think it is possible to run them both on the same linux installation, two webservers and two email servers on the same platform.

I do not have WHMCS running on the cpanel server. I would like to run the cpanel webserver (Apache) separately from the smarterMail webserver. My problem is that when I install the smartermail package it installs fine but does not start port 80 and 443. It runs on port 17017. But when I try to connect to that port the page wont load so I can not finish the smartermail install specifically assigning it it's own IP address domain name.

When I try and find the files to bind an IP address and domain name to smartermail on the server the directories are empty. I have looked for Kestrel in my server but can not find it. I do have an instance of Nginx listed but there is no configuration files in those directories. There are user directories but they are not to be associated with the smartermail installation.

I have looked for some guidance from the support files at smartertools but other than yes you can install both on the same platform there is no install procedures.

Here are my questions:
1.  Has anyone figured out how to do this without WHCMS or do I need to add that feature and  what are the specific steps to do it?

2.  If I can not run 2 webservers on the same linux installation how do I add smartermail to the Apache server without WHCMS?

3.  If I need WHCMS, what are the specific steps to install smartermail on that server?

Thanks for any help I can get.

Bill
