Updated within minutes of the release (anytime we see "Security: " in the release notes we tend to pull the trigger faster these days).

No indication about whether the .net version was updated to address the CVE.

The installer will update the .NET Core dependency to 10.0.7 as part of the upgrade/install --

  • Changed: Updated installers to use .NET 10.0.7.
If you're on Windows, it will show up in the Add/Remove Programs list -- not sure how to inventory what version is present on Linux -- but the Linux installer does a good job at maintaining the dependency from what I understand --

Any issues??

Is this a stepped upgrade?

I thought I saw in an earlier post that 9581 was a requirement for "new updates" following it, not seeing that mentioned.

Hey, Rod

You can upgrade to the latest from an earlier Build if you like. We recommended moving to 9581 only after upgrading to 9575 and testing out that release as 9575 was a pretty robust release. 9581 introduced the beginning of our encryption changes, so that's really all that was released in 9581. (Though there were some small fixes in there as well.)

So, the recommendation was upgrade to 9575, test it out, then upgrade to 9581. So, if you're not on 9575 yet, that may still be a solution for you. However, upgrading to 9581 first is NOT a requirement before upgrading to 9610. So you could, say, go from 9560 to 9610 if you want.

All that said, 9610 does have an important addition, and that is extending the encryption updates to shared items: calendar invites, File Storage links, etc. So after upgrading to 9610, all shared items will be encrypted differently than previous versions, so if you DO have to downgrade, any items shared while on 9610 would need to be recreated on whatever version you're downgrading to as any links created while on 9610 won't work anymore.

We'll be sending our release email this evening that details all of this.

Thanks Derek!

Just a note to others that have been tracking the speed issue with install and uninstall on Windows Server 2025.  The slow crawl during Configuring Windows Features is NOT resolved yet.   Update on my home server is going on about 45 minutes now and still not seeing any signs of color in the progress bar.

Monitoring it... it appears to be related to whatever the installer is doing and interaction with the Antimalware service of Microsoft Defender.  I have all the recommended exclusions setup for this, so not sure why they are interacting, unless it is due to operations on the Windows Services/Features themselves (which is likely the case).

I just updated SmarterMail 9610 in my Windows Server 2025 1 hour ago.

It took around 2 - 3 minutes to uninstall.
Then, reboot, and it took around 5 - 6 minutes to install it.

Comparatively, it was still slower than Windows Server 2019 one.

(In the past, I also experienced similar case - Initially blank-new install SmarterMail in Windows 2025, it took around 20 minutes in Configuring Windows Features, simply wait, wait, and wait)

George... mine is still going... seeing progress bar now, but man... it is a grinder

Literally just finished right now

That ongoing Windows 2025 installer issue keeps us on 2022 for now until they confirm it; on 2022 it's very fast to remove/install compared to 2025.

Regarding the Windows Server 2025 issues, from what I'm hearing we're still waiting for an update from Advanced Installer on that. Linux, earlier Windows Server versions, etc. appear to work just fine.

" Linux, earlier Windows Server versions, etc. appear to work just fine. "

Not quite, the Ubuntu install I have takes several minutes to stop services. I think I have tried stopping services before the install but the stopping services still appears. The install is pretty fast after that.

No new issues found so far
Build is pulled from Downloads.

Why?

Hey, Terry

I sure don't see the same, on either our internal testing install of Linux, or on my own server that also is running Linux. Do you see anything in the console? (BTW, I use Firefox almost exclusively.) I also tested on Safari and Brave on my laptop, and Edge and Chrome on my Windows VM. All worked just fine.

My 'free' one is fine, but the paid for one seems to be having the issue. i'm pulling down a vm to experiment on as i'm not keen on testing out on a live install.

Win Server 2016, 15 mins to uninstall.
Install bombed out with

Reverted back to previous version, sitting here waiting presumably another 15mins for it to install :-(

Windows 2022 std. Update took 3 minutes start to finish and admin login. Whew!
Sébastien Riccio Replied
On Windows 2019, upgrade took 3-4 minutes. Good :)

In the meantime I've upgraded our SmarterTrack on a fresh Windows 2025 with only SmarterTrack installed, it took 30 minutes with 90% of installation time stuck here:

Advanced Installer seems to still have issues with Win 2025 windows features management.

Hopefully our mail server is not running Win 2025 yet.

@rick I did some testing on Server 2016 here to see if I could get your installation failures replicated in house but was not able to. Are you able to check for pending Windows Updates prior to running the installer to confirm there aren't any pending updates in there? The installer will attempt to check/install components in IIS which can fail if there are already pending updates or restarts for the server waiting.

Daniel,

DavX has been assigned to a developer to evaluate whether this is something we can fix or if it will need to be addressed on their end.

@Kyle Kerst - I think this was a case of Threatlocker blocking the .NET install. So it wasn't a Smartermail issue (I don't think). Sorry for the false alarm. I have this server locked down so tight that sometimes I forget to disarm!!
