Allow Copying Email to Folder
Idea shared by Joe Davis - 12/5/2025 at 4:14 PM
Under Consideration
There is no way within the SmarterMail webmail interface to copy an email to another folder. I often copy messages to other mailboxes, not just folders, for various reasons. Usually, I do this when I need to have a message picked up by my ticketing system (currently WHMCS, but soon to be the same in SmarterTrack). I don’t always want the message to be moved so I copy the message to the support email Inbox but I can only do this within my email client (eM Client). I can do this with a right-click and selecting “Copy to folder” or by holding the “Ctrl” button while dragging the message to the folder.

The webmail doesn’t have any kind of a copy option. Additionally, the icon the webmail shows when moving a message is the icon most commonly associated with copying, not with moving.

Solution
Implement a copy function within the webmail in the following ways:
  • Drag & Drop in combination with the keyboard “Ctrl” key. This is the common way to copy files by drag & drop in Windows. On a Mac, the “Option” key is used.
  • Context menu option, just like Move is currently.
Additionally, the icon used when moving a message shouldn't be the “plus” sign, which normally denotes copying.

Hi, Joe

I changed this over to an Idea versus a Problem as it's more of a feature request. As such, I've added it for developer review.

Thank you, I thought I selected "Idea" when I created it. Sorry about that.
