Seems correct from here (.ch) ~ 15MB/s

Hmmmm....can you try the windows download via the website pls.?? To see if you get the same performance?
Sébastien Riccio Replied
Sure,

It's slower, but I did multiple DL tests and sometimes it runs at 15MB/s, sometimes less than 1MB/s. Strange :)

Strange though, while I was downloading it at 1MB/s from windows, from the linux shell I was still able to download it at ~15MB/s

Fastest I was able to get is from a US shell ~100MB/s

What country are you downloading from, if you want I can test it from one of these networks:

Yes, the same here in Italy.

Sometimes it's lightning fast, other times the download drops to 150 kbps... I don't know why...

Frustrating. Looks like throttling of bandwith from the ISP that smartermail uses.

We've seen the same thing for years. Fastest we can seem to get is 15-20 Mbps on a good day, on our Gig and 10Gig transit.  Conversely, we almost always get 500+ Mbps and often above 700 Mbps downloading large ISOs from Microsoft and Dell.  Would be handy if ST could fatten the pipe or raise the throttling a little, so we don't have to wait several minutes for a relatively small file.

I'm also seeing this on my end. Actually it is for years now.

I've mentioned about it in ticket 15A-2E5B1662-0003 (august 2024) when I had timeouts during downloading linux installation files. IMHO this is somehow related to some kind of CDN which ST is using because in that time connection/transmission was going through some weird hosts which normally look like some local ISP endpoints for private customers.

Since that timeouts on Linux installation files downloads was my only issue with slow download I didn't had time to investigate it further. I've only reported it to my server room but I've got response that this is something outside and not related to their infrastructure.

We downloaded the latest Dell SSU today, which is a 13.5 GB ISO.  Took less than 2 minutes, directly from Dell via web browser.  My intent is NOT to beat up on ST.  Nothing of the sort.  Only saying it would be nice if they could dial up the speed a bit more, so that downloading a 200 MB updater doesn't take several minutes.

Yeah. Bloody slow....

Today we have changed our download servicing so that they are served through CloudFlare CDNs. You should see substantial performance gains as a result, especially after the caches get warmed up. If not, please let us know in this thread.

Yes allready working. Now twice as fast...

On my end this change (CF CDN) made huge difference:

Oh yes. It went so fast that I didnt even get to make a screenshot.

HUGE improvement.  Got it in about 2 seconds, versus 2+ minutes.  Nice job, ST.
