Long time SM user here. I'm having issues migrating from Windows to Linux.
Some more details:
SOURCE is Windows installation (which I'm trying to migrate FROM):
- it's on Windows Server 2012 R2 VM (EOL I know, that's why I'm trying to move away)
- Smartermail Build 9329
- data folder is not C;\Smartermail, but D:\Smartermail on my server
- IP is 10.10.40.10
TARGET is Linux:
- debian 13 (trixie) VM
- installed libicu76 and libicu-dev(as libicu was missing on trixie)
- installed Smartermail Build 9378, latest
- /var/lib/smartermail is a mount to another VM disk (formatted with ext4)
- IP is 10.10.40.12
I followed the
https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a3691/migrating-smartermail-to-linux.aspx guide closely, coped files, but the result for me is that I get the "
The server is not responding or cannot be reached. Please try again later. If the problem continues, please check your internet connection or contact your system administrator for assistance." page as soon as I open the web on the Linux machine.
Please note:
- source and target smartermail versions are not the same build (not sure if that can cause issues -> I can't update to the latest version on windows, because the installer closes -> perhaps because my OS is no longer supported)
- I've tried with debian 13, because that's the current debian stable
Since I get no errors in journal, I just get this error on the web page (I get it immediately, it doesn't even ask me to login) I'm stuck.
Also trying to stop smartermail service on Linux takes a very long time and ends by killing various smartermail processes (service eventually stops by getting killed by systemd):
