I have suggested this, and sarcastically asked this probably 10 times over the last 15+ years.
"Where is the online demo ?"
Now, I am making a suggestion that, as each new release is being prepped, that you smarter peeps at smarter tools, set up an online test version of that install BEFORE it actually gets released, so us, the members of the community can bang away at it and do some final "sanity checks" in testing it, before you actually release it - and before WE then install it and find all of the glitches and bugs that we then either have to restore from backups to revert back or live with the defects till the next release (patches) are released and then we can update again.. and hope there are no other new glitches introduced.
Good example :
A recent release, and within a few hours it seems like the list of bugs starts getting identified. But this is AFTER the potential damage is done and time wasted installing something that does not fully work.
I KNOW that you smarter peeps at smarter tools are awesome and DO testing on your products, but I don't know what your total staff size is. Do you have 50 people doing testing ? 100 ? or maybe just 10 ? If you open up and create an online installation / demo where we can bang away at it, you are increasing your testing staff by maybe hundreds ? How many (relatively active) members of the community are there ?
Maybe create a group of us as super users or beta testers or something, toss us a little discount (or not), and let us push the limits before we have to install it and experiment on live systems. I am fairly certain that several of us would be willing to put time into testing a few things for you before we end up installing it on a live system and find out after the fact that something is not working as expected
So... WHERE is the online demo ? I want to TEST it before I upgrade our servers and know what I am getting myself into.
All those in agreement say Amen !
