Under Consideration

Hello,

Hope this helps! I used ChatGPT to explain this more clearly.

As I was reviewing my webpage with Ahrefs, I noticed there is still a bug in the Community section of Smarter Track. The issue is a conflict between various elements on the page (meta tags, page title, H1 content, and canonical URLs) that are dynamically generated based on URL parameters, particularly in community-based pages where users can search for content and filter results by category.

The primary issue occurs when users interact with the dropdown filters for categories. This leads to discrepancies between the values generated by the backend and what the frontend tries to display dynamically.

What needs to happen:

Backend (on page load):

  1. Meta Tags: Should reflect the category or search context (based on URL parameters like tagID or searchString).
  2. Page Title: Should be dynamically set based on the selected category or search term.
  3. H1 Content: The <h1> should correspond to the selected category or search term.
  4. Canonical URL: The canonical URL should reflect the correct category or search term and should be set server-side to avoid conflicts.

Frontend (on user interaction):

  1. Dropdown Filters: When users select a category or search term from the dropdown:
    • Update the page title and meta description without causing conflicts.
    • Dynamically update the canonical URL based on the selected category or search term.
    • Ensure that the H1 content updates accordingly without overwriting backend-generated values.

Why this matters:

When users search or filter categories, duplicate pages are being created, which can cause SEO issues and inconsistencies across the site.

Hi, Carlos. I changed this over to an Idea versus a Problem. (It kind of spans both, but Idea has better tracking for this type of thing.)

We've escalated to the devs as there's some good suggestions here.
