I would like to know what "64 byte length limitation in usernames" means for us...

In the release notes of the new build 9168 there is this:

  • Added: Username validation so that you can no longer create a user with a name longer than 64 bytes

What does this mean in practice?

As Douglas mentioned, the reasons for this change are discussed in the Build 9168 thread. In practice, this means that adding and renaming users will limit usernames to 64-bytes, which could mean a limit of less than 64 characters due to UTF-8 encoding. This change should only be enforced when creating a new user or renaming an existing user.
