"Reset" or inplace recreate mailbox option
Idea shared by Nathan McKAy - 12/17/2024 at 9:16 AM
Under Consideration
Its rare, but does occur more than once a year---I am proposing that there be a "Mailbox Settings Reset" option for Administrators.

The problem: Occasionally, there are times where a mailbox goes corrupt, and no amount of rebuilding folders or reverting from the Smartermail user settings backups fixes it. There are other use cases, but this is the one I'm presenting.

The current solution: Copy the users mail to a different folder, possibly to the admin desktop. Delete the user.  Recreate the user. Stop the Smartermail service. Copy the users emails from the admins storage device over to the new user. Start Smartermail. Rebuild every folder for that user. Advise customer that their mailbox was rebuilt and while they have lost no mail all forwarding rules and custom settings have been lost.

Proposed solution: Have a option somewhere in the Admin or Super Admin side of Smartermail where an Admin could specify the name of a mailbox to "Reset settings/profile/mailbox". This button/option would reset/clear EVERYTHING about the mailbox except for the emails in the box itself. This includes forwarding rules, signatures, connected pop/imap boxes---Preserving nothing but the mailbox name, the actual emails, and possibly the password. On the back end, this would straight up rebuild/replace the mailbox.cfg and any accompanying files.
