CardDAV shows 2 "Contacts" Folders
Problem reported by kevind - 4/14/2023 at 7:38 AM
Resolved
The GAL not labeled properly in Builds 8496 thru 8566 (6/15/23).

Set up CardDAV on an iPhone. When viewing contacts, it shows:
  • All contacts on server
  • Contacts
  • Contacts
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Etc.
This is confusing as one of the "Contacts" is really the Global Address List. Suggest renaming it to "Global Address List" so it matches what's displayed in the web interface.

Hi Kevin,

This appears to have been resolved. I'm viewing this on our latest build, and it shows Global Address List as expected. If yours is still broken, please try again on our upcoming release and let me know your results.

Kind regards,

OK, so something newer than Build 8504 (Apr 14, 2023)?  I'll wait until the next build and try it out.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Zach & Andrea,

Now using Build 8510 (Apr 20, 2023) and I still see 2 folders labeled "Contacts" on the iPhone.  I even deleted the CardDAV account and re-added it.

So request that this thread not be marked as Resolved. Thanks.

Bump. This is not fixed.  Can anyone else confirm?

Add CarDAV account to an iPhone and see if it shows a folder named Global Address Book.

Using Build 8566 (Jun 15, 2023) and set up CardDAV on iPhone. I see 2 folders, both labeled "Contacts" -- one has all my contacts and the other has users on the domain (global address book).

So this is not fixed, or I'm doing something wrong.  Please let me know.

Gabriele, thanks for confirming that we're not the only ones with this issue!

SmarterTools, please change status as this is not resolved.

Just following up on this -- it is not resolved. Still shows two "Contacts" folders in CardDAV with (July 20) build.

Hi Kevin, I'm going to set some testing up on this in-house and will note findings here and with development when complete. Please stand by and I'll update you as I find out more. Thanks!

Hey Kevin, just a quick update for you here! I completed some testing on this under iOS 16.5.1 initially to see if this might not be version related but was not able to replicate in my testing. Under the native iOS Contacts application I see a single entry for my personal contacts, and a single entry for the Global Address List. Development confirmed these results as well, and after testing in iOS 16.6 (latest release) we're finding we cannot reproduce there either. So, we think this might have some device or account component to it and I'd like to get a ticket started with you so we can collect more details. I'll reach out there here shortly and we can get the ball rolling on that. Thanks!

Working with Zach and here's what we found. We set up a new server running the same build (Aug 17, 2023) and it works properly -- CardDAV shows both a "Contacts" folder and a "Global Address List" folder.

The original server that's been through the beta and many upgrades still shows two "Contacts" folders when using iOS and other CardDAV clients. Not sure why, but we can deal with it.
