System Monitoring
Question asked by Michael Luer - 10/14/2022 at 1:30 PM

Is there a way to monitor or report to windows logs any errors or notifications.  I would not only like to monitor stats around email processing but also send brute force and other events to a SIEM?  How can I do this?

Hello Michael, At this time we do not have a method for writing to the windows events, just the logs we have. If the service has a system related error, this will show up in the Event Viewer.
  • service crashes
  • EAS connection issues
  • ASP.NET related errors
  • etc..
Thank you

Hey Michael, as Tony said there isn't a way to do this right from within SmarterMail. However, you can probably use something like PRTG Network Monitor to implement a couple of sensors to do this for you. PRTG includes custom sensor types you could use to implement WMI or SNMP based checks of whatever environmental variables you're looking to monitor. You can also monitor a whole host of basic systems this way as well such as confirming SMTP and web based access is online and available.
