Idea: create a new SmarterMail Mailbox Migration in SmarterMail interface based on EWS to migrate ALL Kerio Connect user data
Idea shared by Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS - 4/11/2020 at 12:13 AM
Completed
We have a lot of customers who use Kerio Connect for their e-mail (some in the cloud and some on-premise) and, thanks to the advent of native MAPI support, we would like to migrate them all slowly to SmarterMail.

I guess there are other SmarterTools customers who have similar situations to handle.

Given that Kerio Connect also provides data via EWS (in fact EM Client works perfectly), would it be possible to implement a Mailbox Migration in the SmarterMail interface that exploits these characteristics?

Thus it would be possible to migrate ALL Kerio Connect user data, not just email.

You can try using the Exchange option when selecting the migration.  I believe that uses EWS to get the items from the server.  I can't remember if there are specific parameters for Exchange but I'm sure it tries to connect to an EWS server to get the data.

I've looked into the Kerio Connect server LOGS and it seems that SamrterMail never tried to login to the Kerio Server.

It seems to me that SamrterMail fails to contact the Kerio Connect server at all.

May be the same issue with the login to Exchange Server?

I agree that they could be related to the authentication issue.  Once we figure out that issue then maybe we can try this test again.

Hey Gabriele, I'm going to create a ticket for this issue so we can track the progress.  This may be a similar issue you're getting when try to connect to your Exchange/cloud server.  In either case we'll see what we find as we investigate it.

If you want i can give you access to the Kerio Server AND the test Kerio Account

SmarterMail 7417

Given what was discovered in the migration for Exchange servers, I wanted to make the same attempt for Kerio Connect: I tried to launch a migration using SETTINGS -> CONNECTIVITY -> MAILBOX MIGRATION --> "SmarterMail" option.

I tried to migrate a mailbox containing very little data, 89 elements in all between mail, calendar, contacts, notes and activities (few elements for each type of object).

With this option SmarterMail is able to log in to the Kerio Connect server (while using the Exchange Server option it cannot even log in and immediately got an error) and the count of the emails to be transferred begins to rise.

But at this point the count of the email continues to rise indefinitely and never goes to transfer other types of objects such as contacts or calendar.
This is clearly wrong because I have only 35 mail in this TEST account.
See the images:

I canceled the migration after 2 hours and the email count had exceeded 20,000 and continued to rise ....

Looking at the log of the Kerio Connect we can see that Smarter Mail continues to LogIn and LogOut from Kerio several times per second. Below an extract of the logs:

Clearly, in this case too, the migration does not work correctly (even if at least it is able to login)

Getting access to a test account would help a lot.  I'll message you in the ticket to get the info.

Hey Gabriele, same thing with your other ticket against an Exchange online migration, we'll have another developer assigned to this ticket to further assist.  Just wanted to give you an update, and going forth we'll send you information and updates through the ticket for this issue.

We do not have a fix for this issue yet.  It's something that will probably be scheduled for this week.

Hey Gabriele, sorry I mispoke on this task.  I don't think this task is on the list for this week.  Sorry for the confusion.  I believe we still have a ticket open with you on this issue so it's still something that's planned.

Hello Gabriele,

You're probably already aware of this, but I wanted to post it here for all others. In Build 7488 (Jul 2, 2020) we changed the Mailbox Migration functionality for Kerio to address this request.

Changed: Migrating an account from Kerio Connect now uses EWS instead of IMAP.
