Configure eM Client for MAPI/EWS

This article applies to recent versions of SmarterMail Enterprise. View articles for SmarterMail 16.x and earlier.

MAPI/EWS is a data synchronization protocol bundle that seamlessly syncs SmarterMail Email, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks with eM Client. (Using the EWS portion of the bundle.)

NOTE: Before you can configure a mailbox to sync using the MAPI/EWS technology, you must activate the MAPI/EWS add-on. For more information, please refer to the KB article Activate MAPI/EWS.

Follow these steps to set up eM Client to sync using MAPI/EWS:
  1. Within eM Client, click on the Menu >> Tools >> Accounts.
  2. When the Accounts modal opens, click on the + to add a new account.
  3. Expand the Automatic Setup section, enter your SmarterMail login credentials and click the green Start Now button. Then enter your account password.
  4. Make any necessary modifications to the new account's Display Names -- which are essentially friendly names -- to be used within eM Client and click Next.
  5. eM Client will run through and configure the account within the client.
  6. Click Finish to complete the configuration.
  7. The new account's info will be displayed. You'll notice that the new account has an "Exchange Web Services" tab -- this ensures your connecting as an Exchange account.
  8. Click the OK button to finish up and start using eM Client.

Extremely buggy in emClient, not usable.

As far as I can tell everything works except when you send an email it sends but then sits in the Outbox of Local Folders and continues to resend...It also seems to error during sync with sent and trash? Assuming something to do with SmarterMail folders named Sent Items & Deleted Items vs. Sent and Trash...Please find a fix for these issues...Thanks
