Configuring Outlook 2016 for MAPI/EWS and selecting to NOT 'Use Cached Exchange Mode' causes Outlook to be unable to start: 'The attempt to login to Microsoft Exchange has failed'.

I believe I remember Tim saying that only cached mode works currently.

This is correct.  Only cached mode is supported with MAPI at this time.
