Smarter Mail 16 - Active Sync - attached picture issues

We are seeing issues with several customers where their contacts fail to sync when they are using active sync. We have isolated it down to some kind of issue with thumb nail pictures being placed on contacts. These pictures look to have been taken from their phones and attached to their contact. They sync to the server, but then appear to break the sync process. If we remove all thumb nail pictures from their contacts they sync process starts again until another thumb nail picture jams things up again. 

Currently I have had to pull all thumb nail photos from the affected accounts. Not thumb nail images added from the web client do not seem to cause this issue. It looks like when they are added from the phone side the issue begins. 

I need to resolve this asap. Thank you.
