Miscellaneous SmarterMail Build 7008 Issues
Problem reported by Scarab - 3/14/2019 at 1:54 PM

  1. The function MANAGE > SPOOL > ACTIONS > BLACKLIST IP no longer works (it worked as of Build 6985). Sometimes, albeit rarely, it will display the flag, in red, [Blacklisted] but on next refresh the flag will be gone. In all circumstances the IP is never added to the SETTINGS > SECURITY > BLACKLIST as it should.

  2. Likewise the function SETTINGS > SECURITY > BLACKLIST no longer works (it worked as of Build 6985). No error is given and the pop-up dialog functions as if it is successfully adding an Address or Range to the Blacklist but the IP Address(es) are never actually added to the Blacklist as it should (have verified that new entries are not truly added both with the Blacklist Search function and manually searching the %SMARTERMAIL%\Service\Settings\settings.json file. Have verified this issue on three separate Build 7008 installations).

  3. The Contact Category card does not display on a Contact Details pop-out window if the Contact has not already been assigned a Category in v16 or before.

  4. There is no longer any way to add a Contact to a Contact Category. You can only remove them from an existing Category that they were added previously to v16 or before.

  5. When using Contact Categories to send messages to a Distribution List (as per https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2797/use-categories-to-send-messages-to-distribution-lists.aspx?KBSearchID=780513) the error "unable to validate recipientsoccurs upon sending. If you Save as a Draft and re-open the message in Drafts you can then send without error.

The issues below have been carried over from https://portal.smartertools.com/community/a91724/miscellaneous-build-6985-issues.aspx (of all the issues previously reported only the "Display Related Traffic" issue was ever resolved).

  1. Inability to override Spam Filter actions. Whether logged in as a user or impersonating a user as an Admin the toggle for SETTINGS > SPAM FILTERING > OVERRIDE SPAM FILTER OPTIONS will not work, neither can you modify actions for any probability level. This also occurs in DOMAIN SETTINGS > SPAM FILTERING, as those actions also cannot be overriden. The domain setting "Users can override domain actions" is confirmed to be "Enabled". Through trial-and-error we discovered that toggling the DOMAIIN SETTINGS > SPAM FILTERING > OVERRIDE ACTIONS FOR THIS DOMAIN will allow users to once again toggle their "Override spam filtering options" again. Looks like the action for what line to modify in the settings.json file for "Users can override domain actions" got swapped with "Override actions for this domain".

  2. System Admins and Domain Admins do not have access to the 2-Step Authentication card in a User's Settings, despite DOMAIN SETTINGS > GENERAL > 2-STEP AUTHENTICATION being set to "Enabled". In light of the first error noted we even tried toggling MANAGE > DOMAIN > SHOW PASSWORDS TO DOMAIN ADMINS but still no 2-Step Authentication options appear to System Admins or Domain Admins. It is only visible if you logout of SmarterMail as an Admin and login as the user.

  3. All SETTINGS pages intermittently give a warning prompt "Are you sure you want to exit without saving changes?" when no changes have been made. Cannot reproduce 100% of the time but it happens the majority of the time throughout the day as a SM Administrator. (We are frequently impersonating one user after the next...we'll see if we can isolate the criteria that can duplicate this prompt.)

  4. The DiskSpace Event in SETTINGS > EVENTS reports far too frequently (every minute) and reports Low DiskSpace for removable media such as DVD-ROM drives. Neither the frequency nor misreporting Low DiskSpace for removable media occurred previously.

SmarterTools Staff:

Should I be opening a new Support Ticket for each of these items, or are these community forums posts ever read by SmarterTools Staff and added to a BugTracker? Seems like every post I ever make just gets the sounds of crickets these last two years or so.

I would think that considering they have a support system, the best way to get support for an issue would be a ticket instead of a forum post.

Forum posts are useful because they keep the community informed of outstanding bugs and other issues. Helps us decide whether to upgrade to a new version.

Thanks, Scarab, for doing our beta testing.  :-)
