Bug Found: Calendar entire day appointment in Outlook shifts a day earlier
Problem reported by Ng Cher Choon - 1/7/2019 at 7:54 PM
Resolved
One of the customer has reported a bug that was found in the Outlook 2016 calendar using ActiveSync accounts.

When an appointment is created in Outlook and the entire day option is saved, the appointment is saved one day earlier from the appointment set. For example., if the user wants to create a new appointment on 26 Jan and has the entire day option enabled and saved it, the Outlook Calendar initially saves it on 26 Jan. After a while, Outlook reflects on 25 Jan. A check on the Webmail shows likewise.

The user then tries to save it again, it went to 24 Jan because the appointment was set to 25 Jan. It keeps saving a day earlier.

Our timezone is +8 hrs. A check on the PC and Webmail account shows both ends are set to +8 hrs timezone. Hence, it is not a problem on the timezone setting. We also tried on another PC. It also reflects the same problem.

Can this be resolved quickly?

We are having serious time zone issues with ours. On another post we were told it was fixed in the next upcoming release. We've now been keeping track of all appointments with paper until we get the next update and are hoping it fixes it. :)

Ng Cher Choon, can you also verify the timezone on the server on which SmarterMail is installed?  I want to replicate the time zone settings for all 3 pieces (server, client machine, and user account).  Thank you.

As indicated in my first thread, it was stated that our server timezone is +8. Our client timezone is also +8hrs.

The v17 6942 build fixed creating new entries for us, but entries created under the bug are still wrong according to numerous clients.

As well, when you send event invites to clients in other timezones, their invite request time is off from what it should be. IE UTC -10 to a client who is UTC -6, the UTC -6 client event invite is off by an hour.

Server is MST (-7), client in SM is HST (-10) and other client in SM is CST (-6).

We are on 100.0.6943  and it is still not working which is a build after yours. Old are broke and new are broke.

I do not see this fixing anything old as when I create and go back into it right after it is off by the number of hours and the time zone is right. This means to SmarterMail the wrong time is right which means whenever it is fixed no back entry items will be fixed unless there is specific code that says between date x and y to adjust but I do not see that happening as there is no guarantee that a user was on a specific broken version.

The fix for creating appts where the client machine has a different timezone than the server timezone has been addressed and will be in the next public release of SmarterMail (tentatively scheduled for tonight).  Unfortunately, old appts would have already been written to the system with the incorrect dates/times.  Chris, in our testing, we are seeing that invitees are now correctly showing the appointment times.

Hello,

Today on version 7544 we have the same day shift issue for all day events, but in the webmail.
If we create an all day event for today it will be saved for yesterday.

No external client involved here. Only webmail.

@Robert, Thanks a lot. I'll update it in a few hours when the traffic is lower.

@Robert. The update was applied and it fixed this issue but there are some other weird webmail calendar things (either side effects of the update, or that were already present but I didn't tested ...)

I sent you the details in PM
