Here is the summary of my ticket with SmarterTrack:
Hello Andrea,
Thanks for the update, bit of a shame that the business does not see the value in organisations such as the one I work for taking your companies software to the cloud..
I do have an article in the Community area which summarises all the information that appears to be available. https://portal.smartertools.com/community/a89856/smartertrack-single-sign-on.aspx to date is has been viewed by me.
I’ll add this email trail to that article and wait.
Regards

Subject: [318-219694FD-003F] Setup test account
Hi Nick,
SmarterTrack does have a feature to authenticate accounts via Active Directory. However, SmarterTrack must be installed within the Active Directory domain in order to use that authentication. With SmarterTrack on a standalone server, the other option would be to program the Login Provider to handle authentication requests to the desired domain from the AWS server.
That said, because External Providers can integrate with a variety of different environments and handle a vast scope of integrations, we unfortunately don't offer a support service for programming the External Provider calls. If you require additional assistance with this programming the Login Provider past the documentation provided in my last message, I'd recommend checking out our Community. This is where many of our custom development users go for advice and guidance from other integrators and users. We have a number of active users on the community that work with development within SmarterTrack on a regular basis, and use the community for feedback. This site can be found here:

I'm sorry that I can't provide a more definitive answer, but I hope this helps!
Regards,
Andrea Rogers

Hello Andrea,
Thanks, I cannot see where to begin.
Are the technical staff familiar with a setup like this?
1) SmarterTrack is installed on a standalone windows server, not on domain
2) All the users need to be able to login to that SmarterTrack website using their active directory username and password
3) On the domain there is available Active Directory Federated Services
If the answer to the question is yes, has anyone written down how to do it?
Regards

Hi Nick,
I'm sorry about the delay in getting back to you. My team recommends that you utilize External Providers for this type of setup. External Providers is a feature that allows administrators with programming knowledge to extend the functionality of SmarterTrack through a variety of external provider calls. In short, you would need to code a login provider to handle authentication requests to the desired domain from the AWS server.
Please look over the following help articles to get a better idea of what External Providers entails, and let me know if you have any questions:

External Providers - Settings<http://help.smartertools.com/SmarterTrack/v13/Topics/Settings/SystemSettings/Tools/ExternalProviders.aspx>
I hope this helps!

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for the update.
We have SmarterTrack running on a server on our domain. Staff are added by me and then they can use their domain login.
We would like to move that SmarterTrack instance to a windows server running in AWS, the server in AWS will not be on domain.
So I can add staff as they join our organisation but I would like them to be able to use their domain user name and password to authenticate.
We have a federated server running on our domain.
Regards

Hi Nick,
Here's the document that I have available for Single Sign On. Is this what you've already seen?
https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2517/configure-single-sign-on-between-smartertrack-and-another-site.aspx#<https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2517/configure-single-sign-on-between-smartertrack-and-another-site.aspx>
I think we'll be looking into supporting SAML in the future. However, at the moment, the .NET setup is all that's available. If you can help me to better understand what your goals are with SSO, I can get in touch with my support department to learn the best configuration. You may be better suited for an external login provider rather than our standard SSO configuration.
I look forward to your reply!
