SOLVED (using ALIAS) - Feature request: e-mail distribution groups in SmarterMail
Idea shared by Gabriele Maoret - 4/12/2016 at 1:05 AM
Completed
We like to have "distribution groups" function in Smarter Mail, like it is in other softwares (like Exchange, Kerio Connect, MailEnable, mDaemon, ecc...)

This is a MUST HAVE function that can prevent us and our customers to adopt SmarterMail.

UUmmm..
it is already in there.
you say "can prevent us and our customers to adopt"

Meaning you are not yet using it. Are you using a test installation or what are you looking at ?
When you are set up as a domain administrator, there is a "domain settings" in your settings on the left menu. See screen shot.

These are "Mailing Lists". it' something like a BLOG via mail.
It's not like "Distribution Group", that is a "virtual" mail address that will be delivered to 1 or more "real" mail account.

Mailing lists are Admin created and maintained. The request has always been for the user to create distribution groups and maintain themselves from within smartermail web interface. the only way it can be done now is use alias's or use outlook or other email client...

a BLOG via email ???
So my question still stands. What are you looking at ?
Are you using a test installation or what ?

"Alias" will send to multiple "real" mail accounts.

Ok, i'll explain better.
In other Mail Server Software (like Kerio Connect, MS Exchange, MailEnable, Zimbra and so on...) there's a funtion aside users/mailboxes called:
- Distribution Groups (MS Exchange)
- Groups (Kerio Connect)
- Groups (MailEnable)
- Distribution Lists (Zimbra)
and so on...

These objects are a sort of "virtual e-mail address" that wil be delivered tom 1 or many real users/mailboxes
Ex.: a mail to "info@xxx.yyy" will deliver a copy of the message to "paul.young@xxx.yyy" and a copy to "tony.white@xxx.yyy".
Nothing will remain in "info@xxx.yyy" because that mailbox doesn't really exist.

This kind of objects can only be managed by administrators in the administration console.
The users cannot subscribe or unsubscribe themselves (so it's not a "mailinglist")

This objects doesn't consume licenses because they are not a real mailbox/user.

You can think of that also like a sort of "single mail address alias" that will be delivered to multiple users.
