Rename & Delete Folder bug
Problem reported by kevind - 1/25/2016 at 12:46 PM
Resolved
  1. Create 2 folders at the same level -- test & test2
  2. Rename test to test3
  3. The test2 folder gets renamed to test32
Happens with both webmail and IMAP.

And if you delete the test3 folder using IMAP, it deletes both folders (restart client to refresh display).

Thanks,
Kevin

I was able to replicate this as well, thanks for the steps.
I will add this to our bugs list, shouldn't be too crazy to fix.

OK, thanks. I was surprised to find this (and that nobody had already reported it), but maybe it just got introduced in a recent version.

Just a reminder that this is a fairly significant bug and it still exists in 15.0.5962. Thanks!

I can verify that the first part is an issue from within webmail.  And I logged out and back in before renaming "test" to "test3" and the problem is still there. This isn't an issue with just appending numbers; it also happens if a space + characters is added to the folder name.  Did not try the delete operation using IMAP though. The deletion part seems to be OK In webmail.

Yes, confirmed that IMAP bug still exists using Thunderbird. It's simple to duplicate...

If you have 2 folders with similar names (e.g. "Sent" and "Sent Items") and you delete "Sent" it deletes "Sent Items" too.

That is just plain scary. Curious that this wasn't reported some time ago. But thank heaven it's on ST's radar now.

Of course, the SM program needs to verify that the mailbox in question is an exact match (i.e. the name is not just a subset of the folder name being modified) before performing the modification (or deletion, in the case of the additional IMAP issue).

You also cannot rename a folder to simply change its case, e.g reports -> Reports

It tells you the folder already exists

That's an old Windows issue (fixed in more recent versions of Windows). The easy workaround for this is to change the case, and before saving, add one character, for instance, to the name. Then go in to change the name again and remove the character.

We shouldn't need a work around for renaming something...

Proper usability testing would have caught these issues many, many versions ago...

Mac users have even more usability issues with the product(s) which clearly illustrate the lack of usability testing but I digress...

Make no mistake: I agree with you 100%, Brian.

We fixed the original issue that Kevin D. reported, in regards to renaming folder with similar names.  It will be included in our next 15 minor.  We're still looking at the other issues that have been reported on this thread.

Hello Kevin, I have not been informed on the release date of the next minor release yet. I do know that we still have work scheduled through this week and next week so maybe we'll have something to release shortly after that. I'll keep you informed once I know more details. Thanks.
