Renaming a domain allows a system administrator to update the name of a domain. For example, changing from a .com to a .net version or even fixing a error, like a misspelling. Renaming the domain updates the domain's name across SmarterMail, but it DOES NOT move or rename any of the domain's directories or data. It only changes the name in SmarterMail. In order to fully rename a domain, do the following:

  1. First, log in as a system administrator and go to Manage then select the domain.
  2. Next, click the Actions (⋮) icon and select Rename Domain.
  3. In the modal, type in the new domain name and Save your change. Wait for the notification stating that the domain was successfully renamed.
  4. Then, use the Actions (⋮) button and select Detach Domain.
  5. Minimize SmarterMail, then find the domain's folder(s) on the appropriate drive(s). You will need to do this for both Primary and Secondary Paths, if a secondary path is being used.
  6. Rename the domain directory(-ies) to the new name.
  7. Once all directories have been updated, go back to SmarterMail and use the Actions (⋮) button and select Reattach Domain.
  8. Be sure to Save your changes.

Once this is all done, the domain will be fully renamed.
