Hello, Thomas, and welcome to SmarterTools. SmarterMail, SmarterStats and SmarterTrack are three incredible products and, once you have become familiar with them, you'll really enjoy their capabilities and value.
Looking at your login screen, I note that you are running SmarterTrack 10.1. There is a minor version update available which will bring your installed version up to 10.2.5364:
In your post, you indicate that you are running under Azure.
In a post entitled, "Is the Cloud Your Best Option," dated 7 May, 2014, SmarterTools's Derik Curtis writes:
"it’s not recommended [that you run SmarterMail on Azure] since, at least for now, Microsoft doesn’t offer a static IP."
While the article is written with a specific acknowledgement of SmarterMail, many of the SmarterTools products have similar requirements, requiring:
- static IP;
- dedicated processor resources;
- dedicated hard drive resources, and;
- dedicated network interface resources.
With regard to running SmarterTools products in a VPS, Curtis goes on to say, "As for installing on a VPS, that’s fine as well and we have countless customers successfully running SmarterMail on VPS instances around the world."
With regard to whether their own IT manager, the person responsible for maintaining SmarterTools production servers, and his preferences in server selection, SmarterTools IT manager states the following:
“I’d prefer going with a dedicated server. While this may be a bit counterintuitive to the way the world is heading, the logic is sound: I want to know what my constraints are with regards to configuration. That means I know my memory and disk limits and can plan accordingly. That means I know that if something goes sideways – a spammer gets loose on one of our domains, we’re hit with a dDos, one of our accounts gets compromised – I know we won’t be facing a huge bill or a sharp increase in our cost due to an increase in data or CPU or memory that blow our base configuration out. Having a certainty gives me more confidence than having the scalability provided by most cloud services and providers.”
Finally, remember that, if you are not already doing do, you should be running SmarterTrack under IIS and not running under the SmarterTrack web server.
The webserver interfaces supplied with SmarterTools products are provided to allow users to setup the product on the local server prior to the final IIS configuration and are not intended for the production environment. Once IIS is configured, the SmarterMail webserver interface should be stopped and disabled in the Windows Operating system services panel.
