Store a domain among multiple drives?

Is there any way to split a large domain across multiple drives on the server? I can think of several scenarios:

Out of space on primary drive and need a 2nd drive for more space.
2nd drive is fast (SSD) and would be nice to store index files, temp files, and other frequently updated files for a more responsive mail server.
2nd drive is slow and would be good for large attachments that are infrequently accessed.

Here are some old threads that discuss this, but wondering if anything has changed.
