Information on the Future of our SOAP API

Employee Post Sticky
We sent an email out to all customers regarding an upcoming change that may briefly affect some SmarterMail integrations after our upcoming release, but that has long-ranging impact. Here's a recap of that email:

Over the past several years we have continuously worked to improve the security and reliability of SmarterMail. Four years ago we transitioned our API from SOAP endpoints to REST endpoints to provide a more modern, flexible, and secure foundation for integrations. Since then, we've continually referenced how SOAP APIs are legacy and that the REST APIs should be used for any integration.

We do understand that some customers still require access to legacy SOAP API endpoints, so we've continued maintaining and updating them for security and reliability. However, after four years, we are beginning the process of deprecating these endpoints.

With the upcoming release of SmarterMail, SOAP endpoints will be disabled by default for upgrades and new installations. After upgrading, if any of your customers experience integration failures, you will simply need to enable SOAP API access on your server. You can do this in Settings > General on the "Legacy SOAP API" card.

It's crucial to note that re-enabling the SOAP API is intended as a temporary solution and the setting will eventually be removed once we complete the deprecation of our SOAP API. Therefore, we strongly recommend encouraging your customers and integration developers to begin updating their integrations to use our current, fully documented REST API as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.
