Administrator messages from dashboard are tagged as spam...

How do I ensure my Administrator messages (emails) are not tagged a spam. I sent a system wide email from the admin dashboard and it landed in users junk mail folders.

Thanks,

Bill

For some reason, Maybe because of Spamfoo, system wide messages created while logged in as Server Administrator (Send Email) is showing up in users junk mail folders. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? These messages do not have a sender email address, they simply say "System Administrator".

We’re taking a look at it.  If we can replicate, we will attempt to get this resolved prior to today’s release. Send Email is a good tool to use relating to this App Password issue.

Hey, William

That's probably due to what's set in Antispam -> Options, on the line "Internal Spam Checks". If that's set to anything other than "Bypass Spam Checks", SmarterMail will probably tag system messages as a Null Sender issue. So, you have a couple of options:

1. Change the Null Sender weight to a lower value so it won't add enough of a score to push a message with JUST a Null Sender score to an Action that moves the message(s) to Junk, or
2. Change the Internal Spam Checks setting to "Bypass Spam Checks".

Just know that #2 means any emails sent between domains on the same server won't be spam checked. It doesn't affect just system messages.

I'm going to bring this up to the team and see if there's any way to maybe automatically bypass System Messages from any spam checks. For now, however, the 2 options above would work.

Thanks,

I do have spam checking mail being sent from internal accounts because I have public subscribers and we wish to detect if a client abuses the services we offer.

Both options above can open a hole in our spam checks but I understand the issue. I just was hoping for a rule I could create for the system administrator email system.

@William Allen

To follow up on this, in my testing there is a new setting (in Build 9714) that would bypass this for messages from a System Admin. However, it appears it's got a bug.

The setting in question is on the Null Sender modal: "DSN/MDN Weight". Setting this to "0" should overwrite the normal Null Sender weight for DNS/MDN messages. This would include internal messages from a System Admin. However, since those send FROM "System Administrator", those messages were still getting flagged as Null Sender, so they use the standard Null Sender weight. (Since the sending isn't really "null")

We'll have a fix for that so that "System Administrator" messages will follow the DSN/MDN weight moving forward. That way, you won't have to change anything other than review that setting and set it accordingly.
