Webmail: Don't indent folders with subfolders

In release notes for most recent build, I saw "Webmail UX improvements across various pages" and that inspired me to suggest this enhancement.

Currently, if you create a subfolder in webmail, it will put an arrow in front and indent the folder name. This is not how most email clients work. Instead, keep the folder lined up with the other folders and put the arrow in front of the folder.

Most email apps line up folder names regardless if they have subfolders. Here's Outlook:

But with SmarterMail, folders with subfolders get indented:

Make Archive so it lines up with Business. Don't indent Fruits because then it lines up with Apples & Oranges making it difficult to realize they are subfolders. Fruits should line up with Business and just Apples/Oranges/Pears should be indented.

Just trying to improve webmail and make it more like an email client. Thanks!

I think it depends on the client, and individual preferences. Personally, I prefer the indent as it's a clear indication of what folder is a sub of its parent. Here's how eM Client shows subfolders:

And here's webmail:

I like the similarity, and prefer the arrows and indent as, at least to me, it makes it very apparent that 1&1 is a subfolder under 1903 Bldg, and that 11-small Biz newsletters is a subfolder under 1&1.

Again, personal preference.

I understood the OP to be requesting that top-level folders all left align even if the folder has subfolders.

Currently Webmail indents a top-level folder if it has child folders. Outlook aligns all top-level folders whether or not they contain subfolders. Subfolders should be indented.

My preference is the Outlook approach.

I agree with Kevind...

Most of my users (EVERYONE I've heard from, without exception) say they're confused by how subfolders are represented in SmarterMail's webmail.

They're all used to seeing them the way Outlook & emClient (and many other email systems...) handle them.

Derek, using your example, "11-small Biz newsletters" is a subfolder of 1&1.

eM Client shows the 11- folder indented -- like I proposed.
In webmail, the 11- folder is not indented.

I'm suggesting is you make webmail work more like eM Client, Outlook, Thunderbird, and other mail clients.

If you want another example, open File Manager on a Windows PC. Look at how folders and subfolders are organized and make webmail folders work the same.
