Activation on 9526

I have purchased a new key for smartermail, My current version is enterprise, I am downgrading versions because I don't use the enterprise features. the new key is professional. When I try and activate the key. I get a message "There was a problem with your activation, please contact smartertools sales"  

Does anyone know if there is a different procedure for downgrading license, or is there an issue with the activation. During activation it asks me for admin user and password.  Then comes up with the error in a red box on the lower right of browser. I do have 2fa on, not sure if that matters, it didnt ask me for 2fa during the activation.

Support provided me with a manual activation code that worked.
