Hello everyone, I just found an issue

when searching both advanced search and the folder search, one of my domains can't search back further than a certain date

has anyone run into an issue like this?

@Cris Mead

In the past when we've run into that it is a mailbox indexing issue.

Makes sense, I'm trying to reindex now... was it something more than a simple reindex?

EDIT: The reindexing completed, but still not able to search

If the data is there, then the reindexing should have resolved it.   May need to check if the mailbox even has messages in it that go back beyond the date being reported.

Yea the emails are there, it took some time to find some that can't be searched, it quite random. Initially, it looked like I couldn't search earlier than dec2025, but now I see some searches work all the way back to the earliest email (2024) and some do not go earlier than dec2025.

Try changing the search terms a bit...  I ran into a similar issue when there were hidden characters in the emails I was expecting to come up.  So searching for "Chloe Schmierer" failed but just searching for "Chloe" worked.  Come to find out there was a hidden non-ascii character between the first and last name in the message I was trying to locate which for some reason was preventing it from matching search terms.

So I got it fixed
  1. We re-indexed, no fix
  2. We reloaded domain, no fix
  3. We re-indexed users again, no fix
  4. rebuilt folder named "3-To me" (in root), no fix
  5. re-indexed again, no fix

What did work was
  1. move the folders from root into Inbox
  2. rebuild folders "Inbox" recursively
  3. then re-index, and all is normal

now, I desperately need to know if there is a way that I can rebuild the "root folder recursively" and everything in it all at once like a / in linux
so it gets all:
  • /*
  • /inbox/subfolders
  • /sent/subfolders
  • /customFolderInRoot

Awesome, glad you figured it out... for scripting the SM guys will have to help you out there.  I can build the code out in C#, but I am no Linux guy :)
