What is the current status of the Thunderbird-SmarterMail integration?

It would be interesting to have a complete guide to integrating Thunderbird with SmarterMail, with a list of supported features and those that aren't...

If the Thunderbird-SmarterMail pairing were (or became in the near future) functionally complete enough (similar to eM Client-SmarterMail, for example), this would be a game-changer...

Currently manages 6 SmarterMail installations (1 in the cloud for SERSIS which provides services to a few hundred third-party email domains + 5 on-premise for customers who prefer to have their mail server in-house)

Second this, I would love that! This would make SmarterMail have a leg up for sure! 
We need a real exchange alternative instead of seconday implementations....

Lots of work to do.
