SmarterMail on Linux: Update
Problem reported by Martin Schaible - 9/19/2025 at 10:11 AM
Resolved
The update script for SmarterMail on Linux could be a bit smarter:

It asks whether the internal web server should be installed. This question is unnecessary, since the script can check which web server SmarterMail is running on. This could prevent silly errors.

A silent mode would also be practical. No questions, just update.
This could, for example, greatly simplify integration with Ansible or other deployment tools.

Cheers!

Martin

I started writing a reply, stopped and just wrote the code to include an argument into our Linux** installer. Barring some discussion and testing I could see about getting it integrated. It will use the specified arg, or previously config'd value, or finally default and show no prompts, for all the available commands.

We're cool with adding this and it's been tested both the install and uninstall commands. You'll be able to do "smartermail_xxxx uninstall help" and "smartermail_xxxx install help" to see the available options when we do our next release.

I’m really glad this topic was brought up, and it’s great to see it will be implemented in future releases. Thanks!
