SmarterMail on Linux: Logs
Idea shared by Martin Schaible - 9/19/2025 at 10:04 AM
Under Consideration
Linux actually provides the folder /var/log for any log files. SmarterMail could, by default, save its logs to the /var/log/smartermail folder instead of /var/lib/smartermail/Logs.

In the folder /etc/smartermail/logs, there's a very lonely log file called 2025.dd.mm.StartAndStop.log. This could be moved to its buddies. Then all logs would be in one place.

Cheers

FYI: I changed this to an "Idea" as it's not really a "Problem".

SmarterMail follows the convention of a "SmarterMail Root", which, on Windows, is c:/SmarterMail. We kept that for the Linux install, which is why the log folders are placed in /var/lib/smartermail as that's the corollary. I can ask if we want to explore changing that, but not sure we'll want to.
