Domain Path Conflict When Adding Similar Domains with Overlapping Names (example.com & example.com.np) – SmarterMail Build 9238
Problem reported by Pusparaj Raut - 7/4/2025 at 2:40 AM

Hi all,

I'm running into a strange issue on SmarterMail Build 9238.

I initially added the domain example.com without any issues. However, when I tried to add a second domain example.com.np, I got the following error:

“Path already used as part of another domain.”

It seems like SmarterMail is treating the second domain's path as a duplicate or nested path of the first one. To work around it, I renamed the folder for example.com to something like comexample, which then allowed me to add example.com.np.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

  • Is this a bug or a path parsing limitation?

  • Is there a cleaner workaround or official fix?

  • Should domain folder names be manually adjusted when dealing with similar domain names?

Appreciate any insights or recommendations.

Thanks!

It seems to be a BUG...

Thanks. We'll test this out and, if it's a bug, we'll get it fixed.

I tested this against our latest public release build and was not able to replicate using the example.com.np/example.com example.

Just to back up Kyle, I installed 9238 on my test box and set up 2 domains with the same root, but similar (but different) extensions and it worked just fine:
Was the second domain you tried adding one that was added previously, but possibly deleted? I'm just wondering if something in one of the JSONs wasn't cleansed properly.
