Forwarding Spam
Problem reported by Martin Schaible - 4/19/2025 at 9:29 AM

Hello

Even though the setting "do not forward spam lvel low and above" is set, SmarterMail forwards spam mails.
Version Smartermail: 100.0.9182.23404

Fortunately, many emails then get stuck in the queue because they aren't accepted by the destination server. That's how I discovered the problem.

Would an excerpt from the SMTP log file help?

Cheers!

Martin

Is the message spam from SM's perspective ie look mail header X-SmarterMail-TotalSpamWeight?
I think it’s generally recommended to avoid forwarding to prevent harm your server reputation. Most of email services allow fetching mail from your server instead you sending mails there.

Hi Martin

This setting only affects forwarding of an account and has no effect on alias with external targets. I had a ticket regards this with ST some weeks ago.
Only solution is to implement outgoing smtp blocking, but you will need to check the spam quarantine as there is no option to have authenticated mail bypass the smtp blocking. Message Sniffer has some false positives that causes authenticated mails to land in the quarantine and we have to resend manually.
