Impersonate User - Domain Administrator
Question asked by ManjyB - 2/28/2025 at 12:37 AM

Hi,

I have an account where I am a domain administrator.
The manual states: "
  • Impersonate User - If domain administrators have permission to impersonate users, when a user is selected and this action is taken, the domain administrator will log into the user's account and be able to see their entire account."
However, the System Administrator says that there is no option to enable permissions for Domain Administrators to impersonate users.
Could you let me know where this option might be and I can then ask them to check it?

Thanks.

As far as I know, only SYSTEM ADMINS can impersonate, read here:

Can domain admin impersonate the user? - SmarterTools

Maybe what you report is a TYPO in the manual?...

However, as Domain Admin, you still have 2 ways to access a user for administrative activities:

- be enabled (by a SYSTEM ADMIN) to see the user passwords so you can login as the user itself
- EDIT: soory, my mistake, temporary passwords are only for System Admins too...
generate a temporary password for the user, so you can login as the user itself, but without the need to know his password.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
"- generate a temporary password for the user, so you can login as the user itself, but without the need to know his password."
How would I do this and I assume this will not change the set password?

Thanks

You can find it here:, inside every one user settings

EDIT: ooops, sorry, my mistake.
This option is only for System Admins too...
