How do I fix a corrupted mailbox?
Question asked by Mark Thornton - Today at 12:13 PM
Answered
I am struggling to understand the procedures to repair or rebuild a damaged mailbox. Specifically, my inbox shows only a subset of all the emails that were present prior to 10/19/24. I can see in the .grp files emails that do not appear in my Outlook desktop or the web interface. How do I fix that? The instructions in the knowledgebase and help files aren't very informative, at least to me.

What is the Archived Data folder in the users folder?

If I want to restore the mailbox to the contents of last Friday, how would I do that from the file backups I have? What files go where, then what command is executed? Do I need to sacrifice anything to the restore gods before starting the process?

Employee Post Marked As Answer
Hey Mark,

The archived data folder contains JSON files, which are mainly calendar and configuration files. To retrieve emails, follow these steps: Take the emails and move them to a new folder. Please note that GRP files are created by date. Each file contains email for that day. Place this new folder at the root level alongside the inbox, junk, and spam folders. Then, log in as an admin, use the "attach folder" option, and enter the name of the folder you placed in the user's root level mail folder. This should cause a new folder to appear in webmail with the lost emails.

Since you already have the emails in the inbox folder, you could also try using the "rebuild folder" option. However, be aware that this may result in the loss of categories or tags.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
