Build 8860 (Apr 4, 2024)

  • Fixed: Cursor can jump around when composing message in webmail.
  • Fixed: Extremely rare issue where reloading a domain causes loss of tmpmsg files.
  • Fixed: Importing accounts from Exchange using Mailbox Migration is failing to import all of the data and generating errors.
  • Fixed: In Outlook (IMAP), you’re unable to subscribe to the Inbox folder.
  • Fixed: Messages sent from Mac Mail can display in recipient's Mac Mail with duplicate inline images.
  • Fixed: Migration of Exchange mailbox loses flag and category states shortly after migration.
  • Fixed: Occasional "Error loading the autocomplete list" toast when opening a new email so auto-complete doesn't work properly.
  • Fixed: SmarterMail is processing email attachments from compose window in the System32 directory.
  • Fixed: SMTP log occasionally shows "Could not write HDR file, trying again in 250ms." error with an exception.
  • Fixed: User's Drafts folder/folder contents generates recurring MAPI exception and prevents complete sync to Outlook.

Seems to have fixed one of our issues. I will try it out during the weekend.

I've installed this build for testing. It's weired when I tried to add a new account on my Samsung A52 (using Gamil app) the setting screen will be disappeared right after I selected imap and click next. But it's ok for pop3 or outlook on my laptop.
anyone can help to try to add a new account on other android phone via gmail app?

thanks

I'm using it and it seems very good...

Can you add multiple MAPI accounts and then add more than one IMAP and then add them to favorites and they stay there??

And can you subscribe to the inbox after a outlook restart??

I took the big leap too.
From 8640 to 8860
Everything seems to have gone smoothly for now.
Let's hope so

yes upgraded to 8860 overnight and so far seems ok,
noticed a popup about "new spam protections" including Cyren IP reputation and some others .. any one have info on those?

However now getting the wildcard certificate mismatch issues which cause 602 errors, i wasnt getting them on build 5768 only the expired certificates errors .. looks like i'll have to turn off the "enforce strict cert validation" checks unfortunately

[2024.04.10] 04:47:23.887 [68441984] WARNING: Certificate name mismatch. Expected Hostname: us2.mx3.mailhostbox.com, Certificate Information: Subject=CN=us2.mx.mailhostbox.com Issuer=CN=Sectigo RSA Domain Validation Secure Server CA, O=Sectigo Limited, L=Salford, S=Greater Manchester, C=GB

Customer reported an issue with search in Inbox subfolders not working .. we can replicate so have logged a support ticket,
Seach in the Inbox itself works, just not subfolders.

Mark Johnson, can you keep us informed with what you hear about that issue, I'm 12 hours away from scheduled update and that issue might put the brakes on this update rollout for me...

I confirm that I also had to deactivate enforce strict cert validation

Many messages remained in the delivery queue

Investigating the problem is precisely that of WARNING: Certificate name mismatch

These are not isolated cases.
For example, it impacts one of the largest Italian providers
Aruba which has the wildcard certificate on its mailservers

Then I would like to point out that even in the log the reporting leads astray

Here's an example

WARNING: Certificate name mismatch. Expected Hostname: mx.associazioneculturaledemos.it, Certificate Information: Subject=CN=mx.aruba.it, O=Aruba S.p.A., L=Ponte San Pietro, S=Bergamo, C=IT Issuer=CN=Actalis Organization Validated Server CA G3 , O=Actalis S.p.A., L=Ponte San Pietro, S=Bergamo, C=IT

This is all resolved by disabling enforce strict cert validation

It's worth investigating on SM's part

Chris - SM support can replicate the subfolder search issue and it has been escalated to the Dev team.
However any fix would be a release or 2 away i imagine, so no ETA at this point ..

To Sabatino's point about the certificate for "*.aruba.it":  His link indicates that the certificate expired in 2022, so the certificate error is correct because of the date, not because of a wildcard problem.

As others have mentioned, wildcards only work for one level down:
    *.example.com
does not validate
So far, I have not seen anyone post an example of SmarterMail rejecting a certificate incorrectly.

I thought the recommendation from SmarterMail is to not have folders inside the inbox. My personal mailbox is 30GB because I keep too much history, but it works well since I moved my folders outside of the inbox. We used to have issues with Outlook reporting the inbox folder was constantly updating, but that doesn't occur any longer either. I would be thrilled if SmarterMail supported folders in the inbox because it is a constant issue with my users with me reminding them about the limitation when they come to complain. I remember seeing a wish list of things to make SmarterMail no impact replacement of Exchange, and this should be on that list. It is the biggest issue I deal with, aside from the autodiscover hacks that simplify Outlook connections.

After upgrading to 8860 a week ago, I noticed a huge jump in emails in my Spool for extended periods. I finally figured out what is going on today. In my Delivery logs for the failed recipients, I'm seeing this:

WARNING: Certificate name mismatch. Expected Hostname: smtp4.[DOMAIN].com, Certificate Information: Subject=CN=spamav2.[DOMAIN].com Issuer=CN=R3, O=Let's Encrypt, C=US

This has occurred for 3 different clients sending to 5 different domains. In order to get the emails to deliver, I have to turn off both "Enable TLS if supported by the remote server" and "Force all traffic over HTTPS". I did not have to disable those prior to this build.

@Sabatino @Douglas The link that Sabatino posted is a generated report from a point in time. As of now the report was generated in August 2020 and at that time the certificate was valid. There is an option to refresh so it would check the server again.
