Is SmarterMail able to respond to requests for delivery notifications?

Right now I'm using MS Exchange and MS Outlook as my mail system (I'm waiting for some missing features to be enabled before migrating all our office mail to SmarterMail...).

Of course, as you know, I still manage some SmarterMail servers where the e-mail of several hundred of our customers is hosted.

Now, my question is this: why when I (from my MS Exchange) send an email to any of our customers who use SmarterMail, asking for the "Delivery Receipt" I receive this error message (image below, in Italian)?

"I completed delivery to these recipients or groups, but the destination server did not send any delivery notification"

I was convinced that SmarterMail was capable of managing "Delivery Notifications", but apparently I'm missing something...
